Thrown after dark, it blinks in the grass, the snow or on the beach: you find it, and so does your dog. Round here it did the rounds of the park regulars one November evening; the neighbour put his phone torch away and asked where we had got it. Soft rubber, lively bounce, waterproof: a sponge after the beach and it is back in play.

The ball lights on the first bounce and switches itself off after a moment of stillness, which saves the battery. Keep it to supervised sessions and put it away afterwards: it is not a chew toy for solo use, and a dog that tears it open could swallow the electronics. Choose a diameter larger than your dog’s mouth to rule out any choking risk. A sponge is all it takes to clean; check the shell after every game.
