Elevated Dog Cot

The neighbour’s labrador is digging a hole to cool off; yours is on an elevated dog cot.

A few centimetres off the ground, and air moves under the mesh and through it: your dog stays cool in summer, dry on the patio or at the campsite, and off the cold floor in winter. Round here the cot did a weekend under the awning at the campsite, and the dog stopped crawling under the car. The taut mesh supports without pressure points, like a firm hammock; the frame is steel, the fabric shrugs off claws and water, and a hose does the cleaning.

Indoors, set it near an open window in summer; outdoors, pick a shaded spot and bring it in over winter to spare the fabric. Dogs used to soft cushions sometimes need a few days: a blanket laid on top for the first evenings usually wins them over. Check the fabric tension once a season and tighten the fixings if needed. A rinse with the hose and a dry in the sun is all the cleaning it takes.
