Calming Donut Bed

A donut bed with a raised rim: neck supported, dog or cat curled up, and the house goes quiet.

The rim supports head and neck, the long faux fur recalls the warmth of the litter: an anxious, chilly or senior pet sinks in and stops keeping watch on the door. Round here the bed first replaced the pile of clean washing on the armchair; the armchair had its cushion back the same week, and the cat took two days to acknowledge the move. Faux fur, thick fibre filling, non-slip base, cover machine washable at 30 °C.

Pick the diameter by your curled-up pet: 50 cm for cats and small dogs, 60 cm up to 10 kg, 70–80 cm for medium dogs. Two colours, heather beige or black. Cover machine washable at 30 °C, dry flat.

Put the bed in a quiet corner, back to the wall and out of the traffic: an anxious pet sleeps better when it can watch the room without being jostled. The faux fur regains its loft after washing if you shake it out firmly once dry. Wash the cover every two to three weeks at 30 °C, without fabric softener, which flattens the fibres, and dry flat rather than in a tumble dryer to protect the rim.
