Training Treat Pouch

A treat pouch on the belt, so the reward arrives before the dog changes his mind.

It opens with one hand, keeps rewards within reach and shuts with a flick, so nothing spills when the dog finally sits. Round here the false start was a classic: dog at the door, kibble in the other coat. The pouch now lives on the hall table next to the keys; the wipe-clean lining does not hold odours.

Load the pouch before the walk with two grades of reward: ordinary kibble for easy exercises, something far tastier for recalls with distractions. Reward within a second of the right behaviour, or the dog links the treat to something else. Empty and wipe the lining each evening. Worn in front of the hip on your free-hand side, the pouch stays reachable without getting in the way of walking or running.

Fourteen days to change your mind, if the dog leaves you the time between two recalls.
